Documentary Film – Must See!!!

If any of you have been following my blog, you know that I write about the USDA and FDA, corporate “Big Ag” companies, and how they are not our allies or great protectors of the food chain..

I subscribe to different feeds that bring food safety and nutritional news to my inbox, so that I can keep all of you updated. One of those (and I am sure I have told some of you about this) is called The Center for Food Safety. They have teamed up with a film maker, and together have produced a film that should be seen by anyone that eats food – It is called “Food, Inc.”

“Food Inc.” premiers today, June 12th in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco, followed by the nationwide release on June 19th.

The film reports the abusive persecution and, in other cases, prosecution of farmers by Monsanto as it tries to force its genetically altered food products into the mainstream food industry.
It has interviews with such innovative farmers as Joe Salatin (Polyface Farm) and Gary Hershberg of Storyfields. There are also interviews with Journalist and author, Michael Pollan (“In Defense of Food” and “The Omnivores Dilemma”) and Eric Schlosser (Author of “Fast Food Nation”).

It also exposes the role that the FDA and USDA play in promoting a Corporate-run Industrialized Agriculture model – A failing model that has caused a new strain of E. Coli that affects over 73,000 people per year, an unprecedented escalation of heart disease, type-2 diabetes, and childhood obesity – reaching epidemic proportions in our society.
I have affectionately called this “Poison for Profits” for a couple of years now…

Don’t Throw Money Away on Vitamin Supplements

A recent cancer prevention study indicates that, while a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables may lower risks of heart disease, cancer and other chronic diseases, taking vitamin and antioxidant supplements (pills) do not.

Here is an excerpt from the article:

“The findings, published on Tuesday in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, followed two other important studies that also did not show that various antioxidant supplements could prevent cancer.

“Although a healthful dietary pattern rich in fruits and vegetables may lower cancer risk, such benefits cannot be mimicked by simply popping a few vitamin supplements,” Dr. JoAnn Manson of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston said in a statement.”"

Excerpt #2:

“”Simply taking antioxidant supplements is insufficient to prevent cancer. People should take more natural plant foods which are rich with many nutrients including but not limited to antioxidants,” Lin said by e-mail.

Beta carotene, vitamin E and vitamin C are antioxidants thought to protect against damage caused by free radicals, substances that can harm cells, tissues and organs.

Fruits and vegetables are rich in these vitamins, and it has been shown that people who eat plenty of these foods have a lower risk of heart disease, cancer and other conditions.”

So, why not pick up some fruit and veggies on the way home today, and help your body heal…

Cancer soon to become #1 killer

Based on the direction of the USDA and FDA, I believe it.

Just this last year, the FDA increased the allowable amount of glyphosate ( the active ingredient in RoundUp weed killer) by 6000% for sugar beets – just as Mansanto released its genetically altered “RoundUp ready” sugar beet for introduction to the BigAg corporations for planting and distribution. All with the approval nod from the USDA. And did you know that 50% of the refined sugar in the US omes from the sugar beet?

Coincidence? I think not. The FDA and USDA, instead of protecting the American public by closely monitoring the food chain, and stopping bio-engineering of foods, has welcomed these technologies and the chemical defoliants and fertilizers that are most likely to blame for muich of the cancer spreading through the Amarican people. I have termed this phenomena “Poison for Profits”.

At the same time, the FDA has gone on a “witch hunt” to close down all of the herbal rememdy companies out there – “snake oil salesmen” they call them, out to defraud the public. While this is true to some degree, the real reason the FDA wants to shut them down is because if people saw the real benefit in homeopathic and other natural methods of healing, the grants and funding that come from the Lilly, Mansanto and other big pharmaceutical and chemical companies would dry up.

It isn’t about our health – it’s about money.

Did you know that even if  our customers write reviews on our website saying that a product  heals, or softens their skin, we can’t print it because then we are making claims (indirectly) and can be sued by the FDA?

So, if you try our lotion, lotion bars, dinosaur balm, lip balms or body butters, and they do any of those things, we can’t say that they did. We would have to spend over $1 million to prove it by doing the research and testing, and then it would be classed as a drug, and we would have to change everything we do.

why? Because the American public isn’t as stupid as the FDA ad USDA think – and we have had enough of spending thousands of dollars for “health care” that leaves us wanting, and usually with worse symptoms than those we came into the doctor’s office with!

Neurologist finds tape worm – in woman’s brain!

The next time you want to eat out, remember this story…

A woman went in for surgery for what was believed to be a small tumor on her brain. But it turned out to be a tape worm – specifically named “Taenia solium”.

How did a tape worm get in her brain, You might ask?

It seems that the minute eggs from a tape worm in the body can pass out of the body and end up in “tainted” food – food that has been handled by someone that came into contact with the eggs of tape worms, most likely in feces.

And this is not an extremely rare case any longer: “We’ve got a lot more of cases of this in the United States now,” said Raymond Kuhn, professor of biology and an expert on parasites at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. “Upwards of 20 percent of neurology offices in California have seen it.”

What’s for Dinner?

As a family concerned with the foods we eat and the things we put on our skin, we grow a lot of our own food and make our own soaps, lotions, etc.,.

We now have a website dedicated to our product line, which we firmly believe is a better alternative to what big corporations offer – and our customers think so, too.
But that’s not what this blog is about…

Did you know that the milk from genetically altered goats will soon be in grocery stores?

And what about genetically modified pigs & salmon?

Here is an excerpt from an article posted on the Consumer advocacy group “Center for Food Safety” (you can check out their website – it’s in my blogrole):

“Genetically engineered animals may be heading to your local supermarket faster than you think. Though creating animals in a lab sounds like science fiction, it’s happening right now: Genetically engineered super salmon, which grow twice as fast as normal farmed salmon, goats engineered with spider genes to produce silk in their milk, and pigs engineered with mouse and bacterial DNA to improve digestion.”

WOW!!!

So, do you want to drink milk from a cross between a spider and a goat? How about pork from pigs crossed with mouse and bacterial DNA?

And did you know that the  USDA finds it unnecessary to LABEL the foods indicating that they are genetically altered???

It seems that a recent study ( fueled by the recent nix on cough medicines for children by the FDA) has restored honey to it’s previous glory as a medicinal treatment for ( at present) the cough.

New South Wales lifts GM ban in landmark decision

The Victorian and New South Wales governments have become the first in Australia to allow farmers to grow genetically-modified (GM) food crops.

It seems that Australia wants to push genetically altered foods faster and further than the USDA! Incredible that they would promote GMO without testing for issues with human consumption of the genetically altered foods – once they are altered, what are they, really???

Germany calls for review of how EU approves new biotech crops

Germany’s agriculture minister called on the European Union on Monday to suspend its approval procedure for new biotech crops and seeds, demanding governments undertake a wide-scale review of how genetically modified products can be used in Europe.

It seems that there are several countries up in arms – they don’t want any genetically altered products grown in their fields, or for sale in their supermarkets.
